Transferring Team Ownership

Transferring Team Ownership

Ownership transfer hands the Owner role to another team member and demotes the current Owner to Admin. This action is irreversible without cooperation from the new Owner.

Prerequisites: Only the current Owner can transfer ownership.

Steps

  1. In the left sidebar, click Organization.
  2. Click your team name.
  3. Click the Members tab.
  4. Click the ... menu (or a dedicated Transfer Ownership option in team settings).
  5. Select the team member you want to transfer ownership to.
  6. Review the confirmation dialog — it will list what changes:
    • The selected member becomes Owner
    • You become Admin
  7. Click Confirm Transfer.

The transfer takes effect immediately.

What Changes After Transfer

Before After
New Owner Admin or Member Owner
You (previous Owner) Owner Admin

As the new Admin, you retain full management access to monitors, members, rules, and channels. You lose the ability to delete the team or transfer ownership again.

Reversing a Transfer

There is no undo button. To get ownership back, the new Owner must transfer it back to you through the same process.

When to Transfer Ownership

  • You're leaving the team or the organization
  • Ownership is changing hands as part of a project handoff
  • You created the team on behalf of someone else and need to hand it over
